What smart lighting actually does for you

Canless, retrofit or surface mount: which one?

  • Canless (regressed) downlights go straight into a small hole in the ceiling with no housing. Best for new lights in rooms that never had recessed lighting.
  • Retrofit baffle downlights drop into the 4" or 6" cans you already have. The fastest upgrade: no new holes.
  • Brio surface mounts look like a downlight but sit on the ceiling, for spots with no room above (concrete, joists, condo ceilings).

The part nobody tells you

Smart lighting is only as good as the setup. Pairing every light, grouping rooms, building scenes and schedules, and getting a wall switch to control the right group takes time, and a smart switch wired wrong leaves you with lights that only work from the app.

We install it right. And if you'd rather not spend an evening with the app, we'll program your rooms, scenes and schedules for you, so it works the way you live from day one. Programming is a separate labor charge, quoted with your estimate.

Smart lighting questions

Do I need WiFi or a hub?

Not to start. Spektrum+ Smart lights pair to the free app over Bluetooth mesh, so your phone controls them in the house. Add the WiFi gateway to control them away from home and run schedules.

Can I still use a wall switch?

Yes. A Spektrum+ smart switch replaces a standard switch, a battery remote switch can go anywhere, and touch screen panels run scenes for the whole house.

Can I make my existing recessed lights smart?

Usually. Retrofit baffle downlights drop into existing 4" and 6" cans. Send us a photo and we'll confirm.

What does smart lighting installation cost in San Diego?

It depends on how many lights and switches, whether we're retrofitting existing cans or cutting new canless lights, and whether you want us to program your scenes and schedules (a separate labor charge). Estimates for electrical work are free, and Bundle & Save takes 15% off the product through November 30, 2026.
